A full-service law firm is looking for a Trademark Legal Assistant/ Law Clerk to join their growing practice.

Your new role

As a Trademark Legal Assistant/Law Clerk, you will support two lawyers in the Toronto office, working in-office three days a week. You will assist with domestic and international trademark files, providing general legal assistant and law clerk services. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with all aspects of the trademark process, including application preparation, filing, prosecution, registration, renewal, and management of trademark portfolios.
  • Drafting basic office action reports and responses to technical objections, including goods and services recommendations.
  • Drafting assignments and other title recordals, as well as address changes.
  • Classification of goods and services.
  • Reviewing client instructions and taking appropriate action with the direction of the professional.
  • Initial client intake and providing cost estimates.
  • Legal assistant services, including billing, conflict checks, file openings, expense reports, and booking meetings.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • A Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate or Law Clerk Degree.
  • A Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator designation would be an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of proven experience working in the trademark field in Canada.
  • Experience with IP docketing software; knowledge of ALT Legal is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and work product presentation, including proofreading and editing skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of legal software and standard MS Office software (Word, Excel); familiarity with ProLaw is an asset.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
