Hays is proud to be partnering with a leading GTA commercial real estate management company which is seeking a Shift Engineer to join their team in Hamilton, ON.

Your new role

The Shift Engineer will be operating a Building Automations System (BAS), following company policies and procedures at all times to ensure building standards and efficiencies are maintained at all times, conducting repairs and maintains and other general duties as they are assigned.


You will be responsible for 1 single site in Hamilton, ON for the following duties:


  • Conduct routine property and site inspections and perform maintenance as required.
  • Complete preventive/demand maintenance tasks
  • Inspect, operate, maintain and repair boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, life safety system, etc.
  • Monitor electrical power distribution system and building automation system and respond to alarms expeditiously and methodically.
  • Perform minor repairs: replace washers/faucets; clear sinks toilets and drains; replace pumps/motors; reset breakers, etc.
  • Ensure maximum energy efficiency, inspect/operate/maintain and repair mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (including boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, life safety system, etc.).
  • Ensure all equipment are operated in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable government codes and regulations

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven background in building systems management, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • BES Level 1 or 2 certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with various contractors and vendors.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of commercial property management practices and regulations.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively to meet the dynamic demands of the property.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and analytical problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with tenants, vendors, and team members.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance regulations related to building operations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating strong leadership qualities.
