Your new role

Currently seeking a Senior Project Manager, Construction to join our team in Bécancour, Quebec. This is a temporary to permanent position.

As a Senior Project Manager, Construction, you will be responsible for implementing the Nickel Sulphate Project in Quebec Province, ensuring adequate project performance through people and processes for achieving business outcomes. You will be responsible for defining, planning, and managing the Project scope on all aspects related to the project setup, joint venture management, stakeholder management, and regulatory requirements, including participation in technical committees, commercial discussions, and sustainability aspects. You will also be responsible for maximizing the company’s ROIC, supporting structuring actions of innovation, engineering, behavior-based safety, process safety, cost sensitivity analysis, proper allocation of resources, etc.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Make a better and recognized Vale, driving cultural transformation through the levers of VPS, Safety, People, Innovation, and ESG, catalyzing change without filters, silos, fears, and hierarchies.
  • Ensure integration and uniformity in managing the portfolio and processes, applying the Capital Project Management Model and other standards required for delivering engineering projects in all phases and locations.
  • Lead and be accountable for the principles, policies, processes, and required standards to manage, control, prioritize, and deliver the Project according to the project management model and defined governance.
  • Implement the Vale management system (VPS) uniformly, supporting all departments in consistently evolving results.
  • Manage the project's overall scope, ensuring the proper change management, assessing and evaluating potential impacts on the Capex, Schedule, and Risks, and focusing on the business outcome.
  • Maintain direct and open interaction with all direct reports and sponsors to guarantee the effective management of all construction activities.
  • Lead and carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the HSEC policies and legislation.
  • Support permitting activities required for project construction and completion, ensuring that environmental practices meet or exceed legally required standards.
  • Manage the community relations team to ensure constant and consistent communication between the company, government, local communities, and suppliers.
  • Ensure proper risk management, developing problem solutions to mitigate or minimize risk exposure for employees, stakeholders, and assets.
  • Ensure the Project handover according to the defined scope and performance.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating project status, issues, risks, progress, and budgetary information to key stakeholders and senior leadership.


What you'll need to succeed

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Piping, Civil/Structural; Project Management or any other related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 11-15 years of experience

Skills:

  • Previous management of multiple construction contractors simultaneously as part of the Project Management Team.
  • Good understanding of budget tracking and working within department budgets.
  • Development, coaching, and training coordination of all direct reports to help the team succeed.
  • Proven success in large-scale industrial projects; experience in field leadership roles considered a strong advantage.
  • Proven field experience in cold weather civil and surface construction activities, especially at remote sites; Demonstration of knowledge with respect to environmental requirements at the site.
