Your new role

• Oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring accurate deposits and compliance with statutory requirements.

• Perform payroll-related reconciliations, audits, and reporting, including year-end T4s and Relevé 1 forms.

• Manage garnishments, vacation accruals, and statutory deductions.

• Ensure payroll systems are up to date, identifying and resolving technical issues in coordination with IT and vendors.

• Conduct analytical tasks, as directed by the Payroll Supervisor or CFO, that allow the organization to gain critical insights into payroll & benefits costs

• Monthly & quarterly reporting e.g. sick & vacation trends

• Process improvement mentality to aid the department in looking at existing processes and analyzing the how & why to determine if there are better ways forward

• Mentor and train Employee Service Centre (ESC) staff on payroll, benefits, and HR matters.

• Support system updates, testing, and data integration efforts to maintain functionality and compliance.

• Act as the primary point of contact for escalated payroll and benefits issues, ensuring prompt and accurate resolution.


What you'll need to succeed

• Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation required

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources, or Business Administration

• In-house payroll experience, including taking calculations from gross to net

• Minimum of 3 years of senior payroll experience, including multi-jurisdictional payroll and unionized environments.

• Strong understanding of federal and provincial payroll legislation and taxation requirements.

• Advanced proficiency in payroll systems (experience with Quadrant Workforce is an asset) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

• Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and manage high-pressure situations professionally.

• Must hold, or be able to obtain a Secret level Security Clearance within 6 months of hiring
