Your new company

A leading Real Estate and Development company in South Calgary is seeking an experienced senior Accountant to join the growing team.

Your new role

Finance and Accounting:
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and budget analysis for Controller review.
Prepare year end working paper files for review by Controller.
  • Complete job costing and project specific loan draws related to land development projects.
  • Prepare mortgage draws and request appraisals for housing.
  • Assist with preparation of year end financial statements and notes.
  • Assist with preparation of annual overhead budget and review variance reports.
  • Ensure effective and timely cash flow management and ensure cash is available to meet operating expenses on a regular basis.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Review and file GST returns.
  • Maintain integrity of the construction status report to sustain cash forecasting and possession schedules that are impacted cycle time.
  • Review cheque-runs.
  • Assist in the preparation of information for new financing requests.
  • Coordinate and support the Controller with preparation of board material and any special projects as needed.

Accounting Systems and Procedures:
  • Support the implementation of any new financial systems by ensuring procedures are well documented.
  • Create new and update existing reports using new financial systems.

Teamwork:
Cross-train with other accounting team members to influence continuous development and team support.
  • Work in collaboration with departments on various accounting requirements.
Provide back-up to all accounting functions as needed including accountants and the Controller.

What you'll need to succeed

  • An accounting designation or post-secondary education and working towards a professional accounting designation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of finance and accounting experience coupled with 3-5 years with a home building organization and/or land development experience is an asset.
  • Accounting software experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL, BuildTopia, Sage 50 and Management Reporter is ideal.
  • Advanced level Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Project management and systems implementation experience.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Team player who is willing to help in all areas as needed.
