Role: Network Security Specialist
Duration: 12 months plus very likely extension.
Location: Toronto (Hybrid)

Our client, a recognized utility company is looking to hire a Network Specialist for a 12-month contract.

Reporting to the Manager, IT Security Architecture and Ops, the Contractor, IT Technical Consultant will assist in design, configuration, maintenance of Network Security Infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with IT Security Architecture and Ops teams; as a business enabler and service provider, the Contractor, IT Technical Consultant will assist in the identification of effective solutions to meet the goals of the department and recommend business and technical process redesigns which maximize efficiencies and align with operational goals of the organization.

Your New Role:
  • Administer, Manage the next generation firewalls.
  • Assist in reviewing and Implementing FW requests from cross functional team.
  • Assist in managing day to day operations related to firewall governance and orchestration solutions and contribute to its maturity improvement.
  • Audit and maintain documentation of current Firewall policies and perform rule clean up and optimization activities periodically.
  • Participate in day-to-day troubleshooting and provide RCA for major incidents.
  • Participate in real-time network security event monitoring and response Implement changes on Firewalls following established change management process.
  • Provide support for Incident Response (IR) investigations when analysis confirms an actionable incident.
  • Identify actionable indicators of compromise through analysis of network forensic data.
  • Research and analyze events to determine classification, correlation, and root cause of problems.
  • Identify emerging threat tactics, techniques and procedures used by malicious cyber actors and publish actionable threat intelligence for business and technology management.
  • Apply and ensure compliance with all appropriate security policies and standards.

Asset Management:
  • Act as support for the Network Security platforms, providing advanced assistance to end users (Security Operations and IT Helpdesk) and liaising with application vendor’s support when necessary.
  • Determine solutions to and remediation of issues relating to security technologies, taking ownership of incident and problem tickets and driving to resolution.
  • Manage future Security solutions acquisitions including related equipment, installation, configuration, management and operational support.
  • Service Management:
  • Support and resolve service tickets that relate to network security technologies that are used by IT Security Ops team Follow the ITIL processes (Problem, Request, Incident & Change Management) Continuous Improvements:
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement, and mature existing security solutions to maximise risk reduction and business alignment.
  • Updating and management of technical documentation as required, including knowledge base articles, departmental processes and standard procedures Any other required activities within the scope of this role

What You’ll Need to Do to Succeed:
  • Post-secondary technical degree (e.g. Computer Engineering or Computer Science) or diploma with a suitable combination of education and experience maybe considered.
  • 5 years of experience in Cyber Security.
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, GCIH, OCSP, CCIE-Security) preferred .
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise with the following technologies:
    • Next Gen Firewalls
    • Firewall Governance and Orchestration
    • DNS Firewalls
    • Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
    • Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
    • Security Incident and Event Management Systems (SIEM)
  • Demonstrated experience in management and improvement of IT security technologies and process, security architecture, and cyber incident response Experience with NIST Cybersecurity Framework and/or Ontario Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Utility Experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
