Your new role
As the Controller for this 20-month contract position, you will be responsible for overseeing + managing all accounting processes for the companies' revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities, while leading a team of 9 in accounting + finance. This role will report to the Director of Finance, and will handle all external and internal financial reporting, and other tasks such as:
- Manage business and financial activity
- Ensure that all budgeting and accounting transactions are executed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensure compliance with applicable organizational policies and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate preparation of monthly financial statements for all programs, projects, and the Charitable Foundation; ensuring reports are timely and accurate
- Analyze and review financial statements, reports, general ledger accounts, and examining supporting papers, including the review of monthly reconciliations
- Verify and reconcile source data to systems, bank statements/reports and accounting records; identify variances;ensure corrections are made
- Review organization accounts on a regular basis
- Ensure available funds are sufficient transfer resources as required
- Design systems and reporting procedures in response to external and internal audit findings and makes recommendations to ensure proper internal controls and maintains adequate segregation of duties.
- Manage all internal and external reporting
- Prepare periodic reports to the Board of Directors including the annual operating budget, operating budget analysis document, and the finance & budget information.
- Prepare and analyze regular financial reports for each program area and, in consultation with managers and finance unit personnel
- Maintain current and accurate financial projections for each program area in relation to expenditures; recommend budget reallocations and resource requirements to managers and/or Directors.
- Provide training, orientation and assistance to directors, assistant directors and coordinators with respect to budget planning, variance preparation and financial budget management and control.
- Manage external audit for the organization and charitable foundation
- Ensure reports for all funders are submitted by the required dates.
- Work proactively towards maintaining and improving the reporting framework of the organization;
- Review funding submissions for new programs and project proposals
- Manage the performance of Finance staff including developing operational plans, establishing objectives and priorities, establishing procedures and performance standards, and evaluating performance in consultation with the Director of Finance.
- Develop strategic goals and objectives in order to meet the reporting/forecasting requirements associated with YSB programs initiatives and ensuring appropriate financial controls and procedures are in place to enable timely and accurate financial reporting
- Recommend and develop appropriate policy direction in the area of budget for the department.
- Evaluate financial systems and operational procedures and identification of efficiencies and deployment of best business practices.
- Provide leadership and expertise on financial projects, including new system implementation and upgrades, and provide and manage financial resources seconded to project work
- Act as an alternate signing authority
What you'll need to succeed
5-7 years of experience in accounting, finance, and analysis
Leadership + management experience leading accounting teams
CPA Pursuant, Designation, or relevant experience
Expert user of Excel
Strong communication, management, detail-oriented, excellent analytical and problem solving skills
