Your New Role
As the Controller, you will plan and execute the administration and accounting functions of the corporate office. Your responsibilities will include:
- Financial Management: Ensure the production of accurate and timely financial statements and reports. Manage monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring compliance with IFRS and corporate policies. Oversee tax reporting and related accounting requirements.
- Accounting Management: Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing. Minimize DSO and bad debt, and ensure adherence to corporate credit rating policies.
- Internal Controls: Maintain a strong internal controls environment within the finance team. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and corporate policies.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: provide support to the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes. Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive leadership team to drive informed decision-making.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing finance team(10+ direct and indirect reports), providing mentorship and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Risk Management: Manage financial risks, including credit, operational, and market risks. Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies as needed.
- Strategic Initiatives: Partner with executives to develop and execute business strategies. Evaluate investment opportunities, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic projects. Lead cost optimization and efficiency initiatives across the organization.
- Reporting and Compliance: Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of financial results with clear and concise commentary regarding variances. Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accounts are properly stated.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To excel in this role, you will need:
- CPA designation
- Preference towards a person that started their career within a mid to large public accounting firm
- 10+ years overall experience with 5+ years in a team leadership position
- Proven experience in financial leadership and management.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and corporate policies.
- Strong skills in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
- Ability to lead and develop a high-performing accounting team.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and risk management.
- Hands on exposure to
Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting is preferred - Proficiency in financial software and tools, including SAP or another ERP with implementation experience considered an asset
- Experience in a manufacturing or construction operation is preferred
- Hands on approach, able to lead and work alongside your team
