Job Title: Business Development Director (Consulting Engineering)

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Summary:
The Business Development Director will lead efforts to expand our market presence in the Toronto area. This role focuses on identifying and securing new business opportunities, fostering strong client relationships, and enhancing the company’s visibility through strategic initiatives. Depending on the candidate’s skills, additional responsibilities may include managing the Toronto office and supporting the technical team with coaching and project management.

Key Responsibilities:
Business Development:
  • Conduct market research and develop a strategic business development plan in collaboration with the CEO and management team.
  • Stay updated on market trends and adjust business development strategies accordingly.
  • Identify and engage potential customers to diversify the sectors and clients served by the company.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients to ensure customer loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate sales and customer follow-up efforts with the team.
  • Draft competitive service offers tailored to customer needs, aiming to achieve project gross margin objectives.
  • Negotiate financial and contractual terms with clients.
  • Increase the company’s visibility and promote its services through active participation in networking events.
Additional Responsibilities:
Office Management:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Toronto office.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage office budgets and resources efficiently.
Technical Team Support:
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the technical team.
  • Assist in project management and ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Support project managers in resolving customer issues.
Expected Results:
  • Achievement of annual sales targets and introduction of new customers.
  • High profitability from won bids.
  • High levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Adherence to company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Technical or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario construction market.
  • A well-established network of contacts in the construction sector.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in a similar role.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Availability to represent the company at various events and travel regularly to meet clients.
  • Membership in Professional Engineers Ontario is an asset.
