Senior Accountant - 3 Month Contract (Potential for Extension) - Toronto

Your new company

Hays Specialist Recruitment has partnered with a leading commercial real estate company. We are currently hiring a Senior Accountant to join their team on a 3 Month Contract, which has the possibility of extension. This candidate will be working on a hybrid working model in downtown Toronto.

Your new role

•Responsible for complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger.
•Manage the organization's financial controls and the preparation of financial reports for management and shareholders. Answer escalated questions regarding various accounting issues and reports.
•Prepare income statements, balance sheets, and various other accounting statements or financial reports.
•Review the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.
•Evaluate various complex accounting variances, reports, and records. Make recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
•Maintain, record, and reconcile billings and accounts receivables for large clients, markets, or accounts.
•Create month-end accounting entries. Reconcile discrepancies and post to the general ledger.
•Prepare balance sheet reconciliations. Check transactions from the subsystem to ensure data is accurately sent.
•Examine financial statements and documents for conformance with accounting requirements and fundamentals.

What you'll need to succeed

• Bachelor's Degree preferred with 7-10 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
•Previous real estate or property management industry experience is a strong asset
•Completion or working towards a CPA designation
•Previous experience using Yardi, MRI, JDE or related property specific software
•Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.
•Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience to apply appropriate judgment and precedents.
•In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
•Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
•Advanced math skills. Ability to calculate complicated figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
