A producing mining company is seeking a VP of Finance to join their team in the Downtown Vancouver area.

A known producing company based here in Vancouver with operations across the world. This company is listed with over 200+ employees. Their office is based in the Downtown Vancouver area.


Your new role

  • Financial reporting, oversee quarterly and annual external consolidated financial statements (back up the Controller’s position)

  • Prepare notes to financial statements, MD&A and news releases for quarterly financial results, present financial and operations dashboard, executive report and forecasting to the CFO.

  • Budgeting and forecasting, maintaining and updating financial modelling.

  • Lead to preparing the corporate budget and 12-month rolling forecasting, quarterly, semi-annual projections. Prepare and carry out the annual budget implementation plan.

  • Accounting policies and treatment; internal control over operations

  • Submit quarterly IFRS updates, conduct internal accounting policy reviews, establish and update the accounting policies and master control template; design accounting procedures to implement new policies according to proper industry accounting practice; train staff in new accounting standards.

  • Communicate with operations for proper operation measurement, costs control and review work in progress and communicate with operations, tax, audit and government reporting.

  • Oversee the annual corporate tax filings and tax compliance; liaison with tax authorities for tax audit; Domestic and internal transfer pricing planning and implementation;

  • Support CFO for corporate tax planning matters; maintain tax, custom duties master files

  • Implement and carry out the quarterly and annual audit process when required.

  • Cash Management and cost analysis of projects; review cash position, update monthly cash flow and prepare eight-week cash projections; conduct cost analysis, manage cash expenditure on construction projects, report variance and keep the capital expenditure in line with the budget.

  • Q&A control over financial reporting: Conduct final technical review of the working paper, periodical consolidated financial statements, notes and MD&A; related analysis reports, schedules and working papers related to financial statements; implement periodic peer-to-peer review over financial reporting; review chart of accounts, review and recommend accounting system in relation to betterment of the chart of accounts, accounting cycle and process to accommodate the change of business needs;

  • Assist the CFO in the development of the SOX-compliant internal control system; testing internal control over operations and financial reporting and identifying weaknesses on a quarterly basis.

  • General administration: General office administration, general and operational insurance policies, IT administration and development, database maintenance and IT control; Corporate filing system maintenance.

  • Other ad-hoc tasks in assisting CFO and other duties as required.

What you'll need to succeed

• Accounting designation (CPA in Canada) with previous controller /VP experience in publicly listed (TSX-V, TSX) gold-producing companies, manufacturing experience is a definite asset;

• Hands-on experience with compiling financial statements according to GAAP, notes and MD&A

• Strong in cost accounting and leadership in cost control and financial modelling, good at training and coaching;

• Self-motivated, hard-working, responsible, proactive, organized, a team player and able to deliver.

• Excellent communication skills and writing experience with executive reports and MD&A.
