Civil Foreman

Our clients specialize in large-scale excavation and shoring, utility installation, and road construction. Serving the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley, they have successfully completed a wide range of private and public sector projects valued from $150,000 to $20 million.

Your new role

  • Leading the installation of new underground utility infrastructure such as water, sewer, hydro and telecom.
  • Supervising, leading, and providing clear direction to crews on site for daily execution of work tasks and overall project targets and goals – safety, quality, and production.
  • Taking accountability and responsibility for site safety, such as through participating in daily toolbox talks, preparing work plans and hazard analysis, and reviewing the same with the Superintendent and crew prior to the start of work being performed.
  • Ensuring strong job pre-planning/planning, site organization and cleanliness, equipment/tools and materials management and driving productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintaining good employee morale, communication, and teamwork.
  • Providing leadership and aid in training and mentoring of junior employees.
  • Providing feedback to supervisors and management on delays, equipment damage or failures and process improvements.
  • Identifying problems or issues early and providing adequate and independent solutions and input.

What you'll need to succeed

  • 5+ years of experience is required in civil utility construction; experience working with deep sewers is a must.
  • A strong safety record with a thorough understanding of occupational hazards and safe working procedures with live utilities and sloped terrain.
  • Live utility locating experience.
  • Expertise with trenching, shoring, trench box assembly and safe excavation procedures.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral and strong experience completing field/site paperwork and timesheets.
  • Understanding of pipe gradients, pipe materials and specifications, fitting and assembly, proper bedding, protection of other services and methods of backfill and compaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with everyone, including customers, operations and project managers, internal crews, and subcontractors.
  • Have proficient knowledge of MMCD and OH&S regulations and knowledge of construction disciplines (knowledge of materials and methods required)
  • Attention to safety, quality, and production.
  • Strong job planning/organizational (site and documentation), time management skills and stewardship of all equipment and tools.
