Employee Tax Compensation Director

Primary Responsibilities:

Tax Compensation

  • Oversee and monitor the employee tax aspects of all LTIPs including for executives globally including Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, Brazil, India, Spain, China, Japan, Korea and Singapore
  • Provide support to HR partners on employee-facing LTIP questions and establish consistency in management and policies
  • Engage with external advisors and internal tax partners to maintain best practices and alignment with changing regulatory practices for payments under equity and carried interest plans (e.g., China SAFE program)
  • Review and manage tax computations for LTIPs including carried interest in private funds
  • Provide support to business and regional tax leads in the implementation of carried interest and long-term incentive plans including K1s, capital allocations, payments and withholdings
  • Oversee the treatment of executive relocations and reporting in LTIP systems
  • Work with financial reporting team to clarify compensation plan designs leading to their determination of appropriate accounting treatment
  • Develop and facilitate education and training programs for employees

Executive Relocations & Mobility

  • Maintain relocation guidelines and best practices on employee tax compensation
  • Oversee the provision of executive tax services with external advisors
  • Manage global mobility tax considerations for LTIPs and Carry programs
  • Assist global payroll teams on tax compliance, fund-flow and reporting matters including respecting cost-bearing arrangements
  • Ensure adherence with Brookfield’s International Business Travelers policy, oversee the administration through HR services and integration with the systems
  • Oversee the management of employee business travel in partnership with external vendors, identifying risks and escalating as needed

Requirements:

  • 8+ years tax experience in an international public accounting firm;
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax rules and administrative practices for LTIPs and good understanding of compensation tax issues globally;
  • Experience with global mobility tax issues and tax treaties with respect to executive compensation;
  • Must be analytical with a quantitative mindset;
  • Strong problem-solving, project management and strategic thinking capability;
  • Highly proficient in Excel, can develop and maintain complex spreadsheets and data modeling / analytics capability;
  • Adaptive and collaborative working style with strong communication and relationship management skills.
