Our client has an immediate opening for a Director, Data Platforms, to join their team in Vancouver.

Your new role
The Director of Data Platforms will guide the strategic development and management of the organization’s data systems within an Agile framework. This role includes overseeing architecture, implementation, and maintenance to meet evolving needs. The Director will lead a cross-functional team, enhance team capabilities, and collaborate with business units to leverage data for strategic decisions and operational efficiency. The role also focuses on AI readiness, Open Banking initiatives, and using Microsoft technologies like Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric.
- Craft and implement a data platform strategy that aligns with business goals, fostering data-driven innovation.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of data professionals, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Adopt and integrate modern data technologies and tools to boost team efficiency and effectiveness, encouraging best practices in data engineering, analytics, and data science.
- Incorporate AI and machine learning into data platforms, ensuring the team has the skills and tools for predictive analytics and enhanced decision-making.
- Develop strategies to support Open Banking initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Utilize Microsoft technologies, including Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric, to enhance data platform capabilities and support advanced analytics and reporting.
- Oversee the design and maintenance of scalable, secure data architectures, ensuring data quality, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Work with business units to understand their data needs and provide Agile solutions that drive business value, acting as a bridge between technical teams and business units.
- Manage data platform projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget, using Agile methodologies.
- Ensure the efficient operation of data platforms with minimal downtime, implementing best practices for data management, including data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
What you'll need to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field with a Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in data management, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in data architecture, governance, and platform management.
- Strong proficiency in data technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, big data platforms, cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure), and data visualization tools.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with AI and machine learning technologies and methodologies.
- Understanding of Open Banking standards and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and Agile solutions.
- Strong project management skills with experience in Agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with the financial services industry and regulatory requirements is an asset.
