Role: .Net developer
Job Type: Contract (6 month)
Location: Twice a month in either Downtown Toronto / Waterloo office
Your New Company
Our client, a very well-known Insurance company looking for a skilled and motivated .NET developer/consultant to join a delivery squad in the Business Process Automation (BPA) team.
Your New Role:
To convert several legacy tools (VBA and Excel-based tools) into modern, .NET solutions. This includes software design, development and testing of the new solutions. The successful candidate will have strong technical and problem-solving skills and will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be accountable for results.
The technical environment includes the following platforms / technologies: Microsoft Access, VBA, SQL Server, Microsoft .Net, C#.
· Reverse-engineer existing legacy tools. Produce both high-level and detailed-level designs based on findings, as well as new business requirements and defined architecture guidelines
· Develop, define and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes and articulate them to both technical and non-technical teams.
· Develop and encourage others to build well-structured code, implement modularity and always considering code reusability and scalability
· Unit testing and debugging
· Be a team player for peers on your scrum teams and within the developer group
· Build, adopt and encourage good coding practices with other developers
· Collaborate with architects, designers, business system analysts, application analysts and testing specialists to deliver high quality solutions
· Propose new ideas to continuously improve practices and processes
· Review and analyze organizational needs and goals to determine future impacts to applications and systems
· Produce and maintain documentation and records in compliance with the SDLC
· Ensure information security standards and requirements are incorporated into all solutions
· Contribute to defining timelines and project plans; analyze and estimate feasibility, cost, time and scope
· Contribute to the ongoing support, stability and performance of application systems in production including problem analysis, resolution, escalation and reporting as necessary
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
· Must have - Min. 5 years’ experience with MS Visual Studio, .Net, C# and source code management tools
· Must have - Working knowledge of Excel, MS Access, VBA Excel & Access Programming
· Understanding of MSSQL technologies including Stored Procedures
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and adapt approach when dealing with technical and non-technical audiences
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a strong, collaborative multi-site team
· Excellent organizing, planning and time management skills with the ability to multi-task
· Self-directed and proactive; thinks beyond the immediate problem with ability to analyze situations/problems systematically and deliver effective right-sized solutions in a timely manner
· Customer and results focused
· Flexible and adaptable with the ability to align to changing priorities
Assets:
· Pega Robotics experience, Python and SSIS
· Knowledge of the financial and insurance industries, Group Benefits and/or Group Retirement products.
· Experience with Agile methodology
· Working experience in a technical lead role
